Robot Solution for JK Tyres – A Smart Turn in Automated Tread Booking

JK Tyres is optimizing its production through automated tread handling. As the configuration of downstream tire building machines varies, an integrated turning solution for depositing treads into leaf trucks ensures the necessary flexibility and process reliability.

Our solution: A robotic system serves two loading stations. By combining a central robot with a suction frame, we guarantee tread handling that is both fast and gentle.

The result: Flexible handling with improved product quality, reduced manpower, decreased downtimes, and efficient cycle times.

JK Tyres is one of India's major tire manufacturers and is active internationally. The project had  to stay in line with the customers highly cost-conscious approach and still maintain their clear expectations regarding functionality. The goal was not only to handle treads automatically but to provide them in such a way that downstream tire building machines can pick up the treads from the leaf truck in the required orientation.

The challenge for SYSTRAPLAN

This was the central challenge. While orientation is standardized in many applications, in this case it was not at JK Tyres. Different machines required different pick-up positions. This led to the requirement of being able to rotate the treads within the automated process. Such requirements are not always fully defined at the project's start but often emerge during the fine-tuning of series production.

For us, this is common practice: we listen to the requirements, analyze the layout and interfaces, and develop a solution that reflects real production environments.

Our solution for JK Tyres

For JK Tyres, we therefore designed a robot-assisted solution for depositing treads into leaf trucks. The concept comprises two loading stations, a central robot, and a suction frame, which allows us to not only safely pick up the treads but also rotate them. The robot thus provides the flexibility needed to achieve the correct orientation for the various requirements of the tire building machines. At the same time, the system remains within an economic framework that meets the customer's objectives.

The result is a custom-designed solution that combines automatic handling with the required turning function, supporting the continuous feeding of downstream processes. This project illustrates how we take requirements from everyday production, refine them in collaboration with the customer, and translate them into viable automation solutions.
